We have the BEST family of volunteers!

Welcome! Showtime on Ice is a not-for-profit venture that is a subsidiary of the Denver Colorado Figure Skating Club. Aside from our Directors and Choreographers, the entire show is put on by parent and community volunteers.

We do expect all families to volunteer at least four hours of their time to the show. There are numerous jobs that need to be filled before, during, and after the show.

Volunteers are the backbone of this show, and your dedicated time will ensure that our kids have the best show experience possible! We also have options for those willing to go a little further and be more involved with the show at a subcommittee level. We are always looking for parents to bring their skills to the table.


Subcommittee Positions

Please join our amazing family of subcommittee volunteers! Any expertise in the following areas is always needed. If you have any of the following skills and would like to be a part of our subcommittees, please contact us HERE.

Costumes

Seamstress and pattern knowledge – this committee will assist the main seamstress with costume construction and/or costume alterations. You may be assigned to individual character costumes and/or group costumes.

Intermediate/advanced sewing skills – This group will assist with basic alterations, embellishments, and smaller costume items such as head-pieces, boot covers, etc. Depending on your skills, you may be assigned minor alterations and/or embellishments for an entire group.

Props

Construction – If you have intermediate to advanced knowledge in construction, we are always looking for people to assist us with building our larger props.

Creation – Are you crafty with mediums such as paper-mâché?

Painting – If you are great with a paintbrush or a spray paint can, we could use your help to help paint our prop creations.

Procurement – These people will help locate smaller items for purchase. We use local stores and online sources.

Design/Media

Website design – Do you have proficient skills in WordPress and basic HTML or CSS? We are always looking for people to help us with our website.

Graphic design – Are you proficient in Photoshop or Illustrator? We could always use help with posters, flyers, and other designs.

Photographer – We can always use help at auditions, rehearsals, and during show weekend with photos. Please understand that this is a volunteer position and all photos will be given to the show to share for free. Photos will be used for marketing purposes, on our website and may be published in our show program and/or other news outlets such as community or local papers.

Marketing/PR

Sales and marketing – These awesome individuals help the Committee lead by selling program advertising to local businesses. Our show is a non-profit venture and these ads help support the cost of the program and the show. If you have excellent people and communication skills – this is for you! Sales experience is a plus!

Publicity – Do you have any connections with the local community papers, main papers, or news outlets? We could use your help to get the word out about our show!

Tickets

Ticket Assistant – The ticket assistant works closely with the Ticket Lead and helps with ticket questions, sales, exchanges, and refunds. The assistants will also help at the box office during the show weekend.

Volunteers

Volunteer Coordinators (2) – These amazing individuals help plan the volunteer calendar, create the SignUpGenius for the general volunteer positions and handle logistics and training for most volunteer positions. This position also monitors the volunteer sign-ups, the volunteer email and works with the committee to assign subcommittee volunteers.

Runners

Lead Runner* (Subcommittee Lead Position). (We currently have someone in this position but we are looking to train someone to take this over in the next year.) This person needs to be meticulous with time management, logistics, communication, and organization. Our Lead Runner is responsible for creating a timing system to get all of our skaters from the dressing rooms to the stage and back. The Running Lead works with the committee and coordinates with the runners. This. is an extremely important piece of our show and is a fast-paced position. If you are good at multi-tasking, a great communicator, quick on your feet and work well under pressure – this job is perfect for you!

Show Runner – Our Showtime runners work with the Lead Runner to move skaters from the dressing rooms to the stage and back. These people also need to be great with time management, quick on their feet, great communicators and work well under pressure.

Usher

Lead Usher (Subcommittee Lead Position) – This person trains and oversees all of the volunteer ushers to help check tickets and direct people to their seats during the show weekend.

Ways and Means

Lead Ways and Means (Subcommittee Lead Position) – This person works closely with the Ways and Means Committee member to set up and maintain the Ways and Means table during select rehearsals and during the show weekend. This person will help with inventory, sales and will help train the ways and means volunteers that will help with the tables during the show weekend.


General Volunteer Positions

Showtime on Ice Volunteer positions. Below is a list of positions that will need to be filled during the show season. Most will be available for sign-up in February 2022 through Sign-up-Genius. Other positions will be requested by the SOI Committee through email and social media communications.

*Denotes positions that will need Safe Sport certifications. SafeSport certifications are easy to complete and free of charge.

Before Show Volunteer Positions

Between Auditions and the start of Rehearsals
  • Costumes (Subcommittee commitment)

  • Ticket Office (Subcommittee commitment)
During Rehearsals and Pre-Show
  • Ways and Means
    • You will sit at the Showtime on Ice merchandise table and sell items that may include t-shirts, sweatshirts, posters and show programs. This position runs on and off during rehearsals and all of show weekend.
  • Costume fittings (Subcommittee commitment)
    • You will lead and/or assist the seamstresses in costume/accessory fitting, alterations and disbursement.
  • Ticket sales/exchanges (Subcommittee commitment)
    • You will assist in selling/exchanging tickets for patrons during designated days before the opening of the show.
  • Set-Up Day
    • We need all hands on deck to help us transform the rink into our show stage! More info to come.

During Show
  • Dressing Room Parent*
    • This is by far our most important and needed position. Our room parents help supervise the skaters in the dressing rooms before and during the show. You will sign skaters in and out, follow all dressing room protocols, assist younger skaters with skates, help with costumes and keep everyone smiling!
    • You will be with one other room parent
    • All room parents will be required to obtain a background check and complete the SafeSport certification.
  • Ticket Box Office (Subcommittee Commitment)
    • You will work in the box office prior to the opening of each show and assist with will-call and ticket sales/exchanges.
  • Show Runners* (Subcommittee commitment)
    • Show runners are the dedicated individuals that get our skaters from their dressing rooms to the staging area before their numbers. Runners need to have the ability to move quickly, lead skater groups efficiently through the rink and be excellent with time-management.
  • Skater Check-in
    • You will check-in all skaters and give them their assigned dressing rooms. This position runs on dress-rehearsal night and for all shows.
  • Volunteer Check-in
    • You will check-in all volunteers and give them the proper wrist band for their shift. This position runs on dress-rehearsal night and for all shows.
  • Credential Check
    • You will check all persons entering restricted and volunteer areas for proper credentials (badges or wristbands). This position will run during dress rehearsal and during show weekend.
  • Usher
    • You will escort and/or give direction to seating for all ticketed patrons. The position runs during show weekend. We have four shows. You can sign up for one show or more.
  • Greeter
    • You will greet and direct patrons as they enter South Suburban Sports Complex for the show. This position runs during show weekend.
  • Ways and Means (Selling Showtime on Ice merchandise)
    • You will sit at the Showtime on Ice merchandise table and sell items that may include t-shirts, sweatshirts, posters and show programs. This position runs on and off during rehearsals and all of show weekend.
  • Backstage – Props
    • This is an on-ice job. Proper shoes are required. We do provide YakTrax to all our backstage helpers while you are on your shift to prevent slipping.
    • You will help pass out, retrieve and organize props during the show.
  • Backstage – Curtain
    • This is an on-ice job. Proper shoes are required. We do provide YakTrax to all our backstage helpers while you are on your shift to prevent slipping.
    • You will help hold the curtain open and closed for skaters going on and off the ice.
  • Backstage – Skater Organization
    • This is an on-ice job. Proper shoes are required. We do provide YakTrax to all our backstage helpers while you are on your shift to prevent slipping.
    • You will assist a Showtime on Ice Choreographer in organizing skaters in their groups and helping to keep the noise level low.
Post Show
  • Tear Down – we need all hands on deck to help us take our stage down and restore the rink. This happens immediately after the last show.
